Let’s go on a journey

Everybody’s financial journey is different; however, at For Example we know that there are certain life stages that often prompt our clients to seek support.

Pensions

Pensions enable you to save during your working life to provide an income stream for you to live in retirement. There are many different ways to save for retirement, and the taxation and investment aspects can seem complex. Don’t worry - we are here to help. Here are some of the most common types of pensions.

Retirement options

Pension arrangements can usually provide an immediate tax-free lump sum of 25%, with the remaining fund generating an income subject to Income Tax. Some schemes/providers also allow partial transfers.

Savings and Investments

It is important to save money to provide for future needs and to protect ourselves against unexpected expenditure, events and inflation. When planning your finances, it is worth distinguishing between savings and investments.

Inheritance Tax

Inheritance Tax (IHT) is payable if a person’s estate, including their property, money and possessions, is worth more than the IHT threshold when they die. There is a tax-free allowance called the ‘nil-rate’ band, which is currently £325,000. If the value of the estate exceeds this figure, and the estate isn’t left to a spouse, civil partner or a charity, then the excess will be liable to IHT at 40%.

Protection

Protection insurance is designed to protect our families, incomes, property or businesses from unexpected events, such as redundancy, a major illness or the death of a family member. It can help provide an income or a lump sum when times are tough.

Business Protection

Key person, shareholder and partnership protection can provide a fixed sum should a key employee in your business be unable to work due to disability or pass away.

Mortgages

Mortgages are one of the largest single transactions in most people’s lives. Buying a property can be stressful and time-consuming. However, luckily, there are many more mortgage options than there used to be, and it is worth shopping around and getting the advice of a mortgage broker.

Equity Release

Moving home can be an expensive upheaval at any age. It’s little wonder that many retired people prefer to stay where they are and instead release the value or ‘equity’ in their homes. Equity release schemes can facilitate this.

Home Insurance

Whether you rent or own your home, insurance in some form is vital. There are two main types of home insurance to consider - buildings and contents. As the names suggest, buildings insurance protects the property itself, whilst contents insurance covers the furniture, furnishings, appliances, clothing and all your possessions.

Long-Term Care

It’s no secret that the UK population is ageing. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) forecasts that between mid-2024 and mid-2034, the number of people of pensionable age will rise by 1.8 million (14.6%), from 12.4 million to 14.2 million1.

Wills & Probate

People have reservations when it comes to discussing Wills, but the process need not be as difficult as you might think. In fact, having a Will in place provides reassurance for you and your family. It is important to have a Will professionally drafted to take into account your wishes and your personal and financial circumstances.
